TL;DR RANT AHEAD, BEWARE!
"UR JUST JEALOUS!!!"
How many times have you come across a user's page and have seen that? An artist gets a nasty flame or even a helpful critique and there is always those people who try to stick up for them by saying “Its okay they are just jealous!” or “STFU!11 UR JUST JEALOUS OF THEY ART!”
This is mostly found on the popular deviant's page, usually when the artist starts bitching about someone that critiqued their work constructively, or flamed them for various reasons. They overreact and make a journal about it that usually ends up on the today page. Most of the time, people with an IQ higher than that of an ear of corn, can point out said artist's overreaction to the situation. Before that though, are the fan brats that show up and try to cheer the artist up by doing the whole jealous bit. They also even try to use this in an argument against trolls, and passerbys and utterly fail at it.
I think jealousy and envy are last on the list of the reasons why a troll, or a helpful critique giver would come by and leave their comments. Seriously, most of the time, the person's art isn't really anything to be envious of. They may be an amateur artist with a huge fanbase because they have galleries filled with fan art of 'fad' fandoms, (I'd name a few, but I'd rather not risk getting into a useless argument) and people mindlessly favorite any picture from it.
I just want to say that a lot of people are not envious of 'fan art', (Even from great artists with tons of potential but waste talent on it) especially if its from a notorious fad fandom. Its over done and unoriginal, and frankly, it gets on a lot of peoples nerves seeing it up on DTF every singly day.
What if the artist is an original artist that draws really, really good? Okay, if people were envious of their artwork, wouldn't they watch the artist and join the legions of fantards?
I cannot express how angry I feel whenever I visit a popular deviant's page and see an argument going on with one person saying “YOUR JEALOUSEEEE!11” I just want to punch them in the face.
What irritates me even more is when the artists themselves start believing that people troll and critique them because they are envious of their work. NO, they need a good kick in the ass for thinking that, and also a good ego deflation. Artists that think this way are stuck up and have an ego the size of China.
Artists that get trolled have usually done something to deserve getting flamed, what I have stated above are some of the things that may attract trolls to their page.
Artists that give critiques (good or bad) are there to help the artist improve, not HURT them, so please keep that in mind, whoever is reading this.
Now, to avoid getting bitched at, I just want to say that I am simply expressing an opinion on the subject and would love to discuss it further, and that the people leaving the “UR JEALOUS” comments are also expressing their opinion. But they are also stating an irritatingly false accusation, believing that all people are envious of their work, or another artists work without even thinking about what other reasons they might have for critiquing/ trolling.
Please people, UR JEALOUS is not a valid argument, think of something else to say!

These guys in my class just kept picking on me and picking on me because I drew anime and doodled a lot. Even with original characters, they'd be all "Oh, what pokey-mans are you drawin' now?" in the largest mockery of a voice. They did it to my friend too. And it wasn't that they liked our art (they MAY have thought it was good, but..), that they kept bugging us, because I knew them. They were the "hey, let's pick on the anime nerds because we're bags of douches." kind of people.
One day, I heard them harrassing her, yet again, so I screamed in the middle of class "YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS BECAUSE WE DRAW BETTER 'POKEY-MANS' THAN YOU."
And they never bugged us again. xD;
Not that I was actually being serious with that comment.. I just wanted them to stfu. xD;
But I know what you mean. At least for the fantard comment. And the artists who actually believe such things. It's quite dumb.

Those sorts get me miffed too. I mean, I do fanart to practice and expand upon my skill base, so I know I'm gonna screw up and I don't mind if someone points it out in a helpful way or gives a suggestion to improve. Original art is for my own enjoyment - and paying customers,
But the egotrippers and the psychotically rabid hateful members of fandom can really go take a long walk of a very short pier. Especially the ones that ask you to change everything for them. They deserve to be smacked in the face. The "OMG please can you draw..." people are decent, if enthusiastic, and given mood, they can move inspiration along, so we shouldn't smack them.
No artist is ever perfect and a good artist should strive to improve themselves or try new things whenever possible. If they want to piss and moan when someone is honestly trying to be helpful, they obviously still have a lot of growing up to do.
Commenters can give some great suggestions on how to fix things, but yeah: some people on DA have all the tact of an angry bull in a china shop with their "critiques". Maybe they need a "good critique" bootcamp or something.
The "UR Jealous" twits that respond to them obviously have also failed at tact and are about as verbally endowed as a teenage drama queen on an instant messanger. Commenters who flame on purpose and not because they fail at tact are best dealt with by a swift case of ban hammer, courtesy of DA.
Still, well put. Yay for rant-relief!

Yeah, artists with over inflated egos do certianly need to be deflated. Not being able to take any critique is bad for any kind of personal growth.
As for all their fantards, eh, their arguments are kinda laughable so I tend to ignore them.
